Cosmetic Crown Lengthening - This is a soft tissue procedure. In the before view, you can see that the teeth are short and the gum tissue is too bulky. This results in a smile that shows excess gum tissue. Additionally, this bulky tissue creates pockets that increase the risk for development of gum disease. In the after view, note the ideal tooth length and the more natural gum contour.
Altered Passive Eruption - Altered Passive Eruption is a variation in normal development, where a large portion of the anatomic crown remains covered by the gum tissue. Ideally, teeth should appear somewhat longer than wide and the gum tissue should be scalloped in shape. Altered Passive eruption results in short squat teeth that tend to be square in shape. Additionally, excess gum tends to be displayed when smiling; a gummy smile. To correct Altered Passive Eruption a minor surgical procedure is accomplished resulting in proper tooth length, gum contour, and height. This all results in a more balanced smile allowing natural tooth length and gum height to be displayed.
Cosmetic Crown Lengthening and Porcelain Veneers - In the before view, there is spacing between the teeth due to the small size of the side front teeth (lateral incisors). Additionally, the front teeth appear small, and excess gum is visible in the smile. The Crown Lengthening procedure provided ideal tooth length. The side front teeth (teeth #'s 7 and 10) received porcelain veneers to close the spaces and balance tooth size. Reshaping was accomplished on the two front teeth to soften the incisal edges.
Cosmetic Crown Lengthening and Bonding - In the top photo the smile shows excess gum tissue. The upper lighter part of the tooth is covered by the gum causing the front teeth to appear short. After the crown lengthening procedure the teeth appear a natural length, and less gum shows with the smile. Bonding, the addition of tooth colored material, was accomplished between the two front teeth by the gum line to close the small space. The final result is a balanced, very appealing smile.

Altered Passive Eruption - Altered Passive Eruption is a variation in normal development, where a large portion of the anatomic crown remains covered by the gum tissue. In this case excess tissue growth occurred during orthodontics complicating the altered passive eruption. Asthetic Soft Tissue Management - In the before photos notice recession, uneven gum line, discoloration and a dark triangle between the two front teeth. With a combination of surgical techniques, the gum problems were corrected and stabilized. The tooth problems were resolved with crowns.
Comprehensive Smile Alteration - In the before photos notice recession, uneven gum line, discoloration and a dark triangle between the two front teeth. With a combination of surgical techniques, the gum problems were corrected and stabilized. The tooth problems were resolved with crowns.
Cosmetic Reconstruction - In the before view, notice the dark, yellow teeth, silver fillings and crowns, all with different coloration. Further, notice spacing, staining and wear on the biting edges of the front teeth, tapered crown form and clasps from a removable denture. In the after picture, notice consistent shape, color and pleasing crown contours.
Crown Lengthening and Bonding - In the before view, the smile shows gum excessively. The upper part of the tooth is covered by gum causing the front teeth to appear short. After the crown lengthening procedure, the upper teeth appear normal length, and less gum shows with the smile. Bonding (the addition of tooth colored material) was accomplished between the two front teeth, by the gum line, to close the small space. The final result is a balanced, very appealing smile.
Crown Lengthening and Porcelain Crowns - The Problem: A gummy smile, the space between the front teeth, uneven crown length due to uneven gum line, discoloration, and the color of the front teeth do not match. The periodontal solution: A crown lengthening procedure to raise the level of the gum creating ideal tooth length and an even gum line. The restorative solution: Porcelain crowns on the six front teeth. This closes the space between the front teeth and matches colors. The combined periodontal / restorative solution creates an aesthetically pleasing, nicely balanced smile.
Crown Lengthening and Porcelain Crowns - The Problem: A gummy smile, the space between the front teeth, uneven crown length due to uneven gum line, and the color of the front teeth do not match. The periodontal solution: A crown lengthening procedure to raise the level of the gum creating ideal tooth length and an even gum line. The restorative solution: Porcelain crowns on ten visible teeth. This closes the space between the front teeth and matches colors. The combined periodontal / restorative solution creates an aesthetically pleasing, nicely balanced smile.
Crown Lengthening and Porcelain Veneers - In the before view, the front teeth appear small and excess gum is visible in the smile. Additionally, the two left front teeth did not develop properly and then sustained injury. In the midtreatment photo, surgical crown lengthening has been accomplished. Notice how tooth length appears more natural and balanced. In the after photo, porcelain veneers have been placed on the four front teeth. This repairs the damaged teeth and provides ideal contours and color. The patient chose not to place veneers on the canine teeth.
Crown Lengthening - This patient is congenitally missing the two small front teeth. Orthodontics was completed by moving the large sized cuspids forward to close the space resulting in an unbalanced smile. Through a combination of surgical crown lengthening, crowns and veneers her smile was made to look very pleasing.
